The portraits of the three women represent the Palestinian bedouins and villagers wearing their traditional handcrafted garments; the ‘thob’ which has a richly embroidered square chest “qabbeh” and the ‘shambar’; a large white veil. Silver jewelry and handcrafted headdresses were also an important part of their outfit.
This piece reminds today’s generation of the beauty of the traditional Palestinian attire worn by women in the old days. We still see elderly Palestinian women wearing the ‘thob’ during occasions and gatherings. However, it is not very popular amongst the youths.
